Newcastle United extended their advantage over Liverpool in the race for Champions League qualification
Rasmus Christensen’s goal for Leeds United against Newcastle United gave Liverpool a slim chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
Following Nick Pope’s quick stop of Robin Koch’s header, Luke Ayling scored the game’s first goal by firing into the roof of the net. After Junior Firpo was fouled by Joelinton for Sam Allardyce’s team, Patrick Bamford was given the chance to increase the advantage.
However, the England shot-stopper guessed the right way to thwart the striker from the spot. Minutes later, Callum Wilson was presented a penalty of his own after a wild swipe in the box from Maximilian Wober gave Simon Hooper no option to award another spot-kick.

Joel Robles guessed the right way but the 31-year-old’s effort has enough to nestle in the back of the net. A moment of madness from Firpo saw another penalty awarded to the Magpies in the second-half with the Englishman converting again.
Elland Road went into raptures once again as Rasmus Kristensen’s deflected strike brought the sides level with 12 minutes remaining.
Below is a look at the Reds’ final three fixtures:
May 15 – Leicester City (A): Leicester City suffered a heavy defeat last time out away at Fulham. It would be no surprise to expect a reaction from Dean Smith’s side when they host Liverpool on Monday.
May 20 – Aston Villa (H): Unai Emery’s side suffered straight defeats to Manchester United and Wolves to all-but end their aspirations of Europe. While the pressure will be off slightly, Liverpool have extra incentive to cement their spot in the hat for Europe next season – whatever the competition.
May 28 – Southampton (A): The Reds will be hoping their name will already be in the hat for European competition next season by this stage. The curtain for their Premier League campaign comes down against Southampton, who currently sit bottom of the table.
