Darren Bent says who he thinks Newcastle must sign in the summer.

The transfer window is upon us and Darren Bent has said that Newcastle United should sign James Maddison this summer to allow them to compete next season.

As Newcastle look to cement their place in the Champions League before the final game of the season, many pundits’ attention has turned to the summer transfer window and Darren Bent has spoken on TalkSPORT about who he thinks Newcastle need to sign this summer.

James Maddison is Bent’s top pick for Newcastle and it makes perfect sense. Newcastle have coveted the England playmaker for a while now.

Bent says Maddison would be ‘good at Newcastle’

Bent said on TalkSPORT: “James Maddison is one of the obvious ones. A creative midfielder, I think they need that. Even though Leicester have been so poor he’s kept his standards very high. I think he’d be good at Newcastle.”

No arguments here.

I’ve seen a lot of people suggesting that he’s not good enough based off recent performances, but it’s hard to blame Maddison for those. He’s one man in a team of 11, ten of which have given up. He can only do so much.

Maddison has managed to bag 10 goals and nine assists in 28 Premier League outings for that horrendous Leicester side and that cannot be overlooked.

Maddison in our midfield would be immense

Imagine what Maddison could do in Newcastle’s team with Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Joe Willock, Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson to play alongside and around him. He’d be amazing.

The 26-year-old has been a long-standing target of Eddie Howe for a reason, and I highly doubt a couple of below-par outings at the tail end of the season are going to put him off.

Depending on results this weekend, Newcastle could relegate Leicester on Monday night. That should make for an interesting post-match atmosphere behind closed doors at St James’ Park. I’d be amazed if there isn’t a meeting or two scheduled after full time.
