Sporting Club de Portugal have joined the race to sign Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, with Leeds United still keen despite relegation.
That is according to Portuguese outlet Record, via Sport Witness, who report he could available for as little as £11 million this summer.
Gyokeres is out of contract at Coventry next summer and the Sky Blues could be forces into selling him in the upcoming transfer window after their play-off final defeat to Luton Town last weekend.
The 24-year-old has been one of, if not the best striker in the Championship over the last two seasons, registering the best campaign of his career last term with 21 goals and 12 assists in 49 appearances.
Leeds will almost certainly be in the market for a new striker in the coming weeks, with Rodrigo likely to leave after relegation, and Patrick Bamford’s form and fitness still an issue.
Leeds still in Gyokeres race
With Leeds now a Championship side, they will undoubtedly find it much tougher to prise Gyokeres to Elland Road given interest elsewhere.
A host of Premier League sides including Wolves, Everton and Newcastle United have all been linked, while interest from Sporting CP could also be tempting due to European football.
It still remains unclear as to what sort of budget Leeds will have at their disposal this summer, particularly given the ownership situation is up in the air.
However, it is widely expected Leeds will lose a number of players for big money, and so they will need to reinvest that to have any hope of an immediate Premier League return.
If the funds are there, Gyokeres simply has to be at the top of Leeds’ targets, particularly if he is indeed available for a cut-price fee of £11 million.
