Best news ever: Leeds united star man to be offered new contract despite playing 13 times last season

Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw could be set to be offered a new contract by the club in the coming weeks, with his current deal set to expire at the end of June.

The Whites are in a strange spot at the moment as they ‘prepare’ for their return to the EFL this August, with a host of players bound to leave, while no manager or director of football is in line to take over.

Retaining key players is going to be a must for Leeds to mount a serious promotion charge next season, and work might already be underway.

Forshaw to stay?

One of the few contracts left to expire at the end of this month is that of midfielder Adam Forshaw, with the 31-year-old overcoming major injury issues again to have a strong end to the season.

While the side dropped into the Championship after finishing 19th, Forshaw came back into the side for the run-in and proved to be a better option in the middle of the park than struggling pair Marc Roca and Weston McKennie – while Tyler Adams sat out through injury.

Will Forshaw sign a new contract?

Football Insider are now reporting that this solid end to the season for the midfielder has prompted the club to re-think their stance on his contract.

Initially, it looked as though Leeds were happy to let the injury-prone man’s contract expire at the end of the season, but now they look set to sit down for talks with Forshaw.

The club holds an option in the player’s contract to trigger an extension, which is now being considered, along with the possibility of offering him more of a long-term deal.

Would Corberan be a good appointment?

It’s a really hard one, because Forshaw could be one of the best sitting midfielders in the Championship if he stayed fit.

The problem is that ‘if’, it’s a huge task for him to remain fit for a long stretch of games, especially in a 46-game season that’s in store.

We need reliable midfielders and it’s a real shame that we cannot say that about Forshaw.

He’s been a terrific servant to the club, but he’s simply not been able to keep himself available, so I don’t see why we need to tie him down again.
