Sources: Celtic open Kyogo Furuhashi talks as Nottingham Forest swoop
Celtic have held early talks over a new contract for star striker Kyogo Furuhashi in a bid to keep him at the club this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Japanese front man has interest from Premier League trio Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace as well as Serie A and Bundesliga clubs.
Ange Postecoglou departed for Tottenham on Tuesday and reports have suggested he wants Kyogo to join him in London.
However, there has been no contact from Spurs over the 28-year-old yet.
The Scottish Football player of the year scored 34 times for The Hoops this season and has been the standout player for Celtic in their treble winning campaign.
Football Insider has learned from well-placed sources there is high interest in his signature, he has been stung by Postecoglou’s exit but he is happy in Glasgow and won’t rush into any decision over the coming weeks.
Celtic have him tied down on a deal until 2025 and there is no release clause but the club are keen to offer him an improved deal that keeps him for at least another year.
Celtic are aware that if a big-money bid is submitted the situation can change fast.
Celtic could face losing an number of key men this summer with high interest in the likes of Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley, so will be key to try and tie down as many of their side as possible.
Kyogo signed for Celtic in the summer of 2021 and has gone on to score 54 goals in only 83 appearances, and he has also been capped by Japan on 16 occasions.

Donny van de Beek is expected to push for a move away from Manchester United this summer with the club ready to let Dean Henderson join Nottingham Forest.
Erik ten Hag is eager to strengthen his squad with a striker and midfielder his top priorities with a number of current stars also expected to be moved on.
Van de Beek played a key role under ten Hag during their time together at Ajax but the midfielder’s struggles in Manchester have continued this season, making just 10 appearances before a knee injury ended his campaign in January.
The 26-year-old is expected to be fit again in time for the start of pre-season but his future could lie away from Old Trafford.
Van de Beek will explore options in the transfer market in the coming weeks and is eager to secure greater first-team opportunities for himself next season.
The Dutchman is one of a number of players whose futures at Old Trafford are uncertain with Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Fred and Anthony Martial also linked with moves away.
Nottingham Forest are keen to sign goalkeeper Henderson on a permanent deal after his loan spell last season with Steve Cooper eager to make him his no1 next term.
Forest have opened talks with United thought to be asking for a fee of around £30million for the shot stopper and will sanction his exit once David de Gea’s future is resolved, ESPN report.
De Gea’s contract expires on 30 June but talks over a new deal are close to being completed.
While he is eager to keep the Spaniard, ten Hag recently said his status as his no1 is not guaranteed next season with the club showing interest in bringing in another goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
But once de Gea’s future is resolved, it is expected to pave the way for Henderson’s exit.
United meanwhile are in advanced to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea and are also pursuing deals for Harry Kane and Atalanta starlet Rasmus Hojlund.
