Callum Paterson has penned a new deal at Sheffield Wednesday, and The Star say that he could be under contract for another two years.

Paterson, 28, joined Sheffield Wednesday from Cardiff City in 2020. He signed an initial three-tear deal with the club meaning that his original contract was due to expire this summer. And he seemingly came close to leaving in January with Scottish outfit Hearts having held an interest in the 17-time Scottish international.

But Paterson has signed a new deal with the club, and speaking to The Yorkshire Post after extending his stay at Hillsborough, Paterson said:

“I’m really happy to be staying with Wednesday. I’ve really enjoyed my time with the club so far, last season in particular was really special, and I wanted that journey to continue. It was an easy decision.”

Paterson has so far racked up 128 appearances for Wednesday, scoring 23 goals along the way. He featured 28 times in League One last season and scored six goals, with some of those goals proving vital in Wednesday’s eventual promotion to the Championship.

New deal for Pato…

Paterson’s contract length has not been revealed. But an emerging report from The Star says that Paterson’s new deal could see him remain at Hillsborough until the summer of 2025 – either meaning a two-year deal has been signed, or a one-year deal with the option for a further year.

And whilst Paterson may have split opinion among Wednesday fans in the past, and whilst he’s had troubles with consistency and injury, on the whole he’s been a very good player for the Owls.

He’s also a player with good Championship experience and pedigree and so this move makes sense from a Wednesday viewpoint, with the 2023/24 Championship roster looking very tough.

Darren Moore needs all the recruits he can get and if he can get players in with Championship experience then even better, as there’s a few in the Wednesday ranks who are lacking in it.

The summer transfer window officially opens next week and Wednesday will need to be quick out the traps to get the players they want.
