Nottingham Forest are set to announce the appointment of Craig Mulholland following his departure from Rangers last month. The newcomer will work overseeing the club’s academy but it’s not clear what role he will take on.

Mulholland has been working with Rangers for many years. He’s held a number of different positions at the Glaswegian-based club but he’s now departed for a new challenge, according to Football Scotland.

The one caveat to this appointment by Forest is what it potentially means for Gary Brazil. A Forest hero for his work with the academy, he’s yet to sign a new deal and this does little to suggest he’s going to get one.

There is a possibility that the two could work together at the City Ground. However, given that Mulholland has been doing the same job at Rangers in recent years, it doesn’t look likely.

Since 2014, he’s been the academy director. He’s had some success at Rangers, with the likes of Nathan Patterson and Billy Gilmour going south of the border for decent money under his watch.

Mulholland will have big shoes to fill at Forest. Not just with his work-based responsibilities but also given the fact that Brazil has been largely respected by the City Ground fan base for many years.

Forest set to announce Mulholland but what does it mean for Brazil

This is the million-dollar question. It’s unthinkable to imagine Brazil now being offered something to continue his magnificent work at Forest.

However, he may fancy a new challenge. It’s also not inconceivable that Brazil doesn’t want to continue in football and may sail off into the sunset.

However, Mulholland does come a proven track record of success within a youth academy. The man who has served Rangers for over 20 years knows what he’s doing and Forest will have to give him a chance.

This deal looks like one that will be decent for the club. Although the fans won’t have wanted anyone to replace Brazil, the hope will be that he can continue the good work done by the Forest man.

What Nottingham Forest staff really thought of Jesse Lingard in training

A report released today has explained how Jesse Lingard was perceived in training for Nottingham Forest. The 30-year-old was allowed to leave the Reds earlier this month after just a year in charge.

Now, the speculation has started over why he’s left. The Athletic have covered an in-depth piece on this and there were no ill feelings towards Lingard during his time at the City Ground.

Lingard was signed with the intention of being the big-name signing who came in to send a message out. West Ham had wanted him but it’s thought that Forest blew them out of the water with their offer.

What comes next for Lingard remains to be seen. He will likely have some offers to consider but it seems very unlikely that he will earn another move to England after his Forest spell.

The versatile forward failed to register a goal or an assist during his 17 league appearances for the club. He did score twice and claim two assists but they came during the Carabao Cup campaign.

Lingard’s poor league form wasn’t through a lack of trying though. The latest report claims that the 32-cap England player was dedicated to training and enjoyed going over his performances with the club’s analysts.

There was also a claim that he held a constant desire to be the best he could be. That news will delight, and perhaps surprise, the club’s supporters with some often feeling like he could do more.

Report has explained how Lingard was perceived in Forest training

Clearly, the player’s form wasn’t through any lack of determination. He was always trying his best to get into form through performing in training and he remains a very misunderstood character.

The World Cup came at the wrong time for Lingard. He was just starting to strike up a relationship with Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White on the pitch when football took a break for a month.

It’s not clear what the future does hold for Lingard. A move abroad does seem to be logical at this stage but ultimately it will depend on what the departed Forest player fancies doing next.

Lingard leaves Forest with the club’s best wishes. It certainly sounds as though the player left no stone unturned in his quest to be a better player during his time at the City Ground.
