Premier League new boys turn down chance of bargain Nottingham Forest transfer

The latest Nottingham Forest news from Nottinghamshire Live as Luton Town reportedly reject the chance to sign the American international

Luton Town have reportedly decided against signing Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath after promotion to the Premier League.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Luton could have completed a permanent move for the American international for £1.5m. That looks to be a bargain price considering the key role he play in promotion via the play-offs as he kept 20 clean sheets last season.

However, it is claimed Luton will look elsewhere within the Championship to replace Horvath. Blackburn’s Thomas Kaminski is their first choice target despite him being valued at £6m.

Huddersfield’s Lee Nicholls is said to be a back-up option for manager Rob Edwards, who is also set to sign Asmir Begovic from Everton.

If Horvath does not join Luton then he faces something of an uncertain future. Forest are pushing to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United but any deal is on hold until David de Gea signs a new contract or is replaced.

It is highly unlikely Horvath will be first choice under Steve Cooper next season but he could stay and vie with Wayne Hennessey to be the second choice keeper.

However, at the age of 28, he is likely to want first team football and could look to return to his homeland to play in the MLS or join a European club.

Horvath already has experience in Norway with Molde and in Belgium with Club Brugge.
