Report: Nottingham Forest demands “problem” as transfer saga drags on

Report: Rangers won’t meet demands for Nottingham Forest defender

Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo is in limbo amid claims Rangers are struggling to secure his signature.

Few could really blame Panzo for wanting to leave Forest this summer.

The defender joined Forest from Dijon back in January 2022, attempting to get his career back on track under Steve Cooper.

Formerly a hot prospect at Chelsea, Panzo lost his way in France and reunited with his former England youth boss Cooper at Forest.

Panzo only played once though as Forest won promotion, and the jump to the Premier League left Panzo as an odd man out.

Coventry City pounced for a season-long loan deal, but the Sky Blues missed out on promotion to the Premier League with a playoff final defeat.

Panzo is now back with Forest this summer but it seems unlikely that he will have a role to play in the Premier League.

Panzo has been heavily linked with Rangers of late but Michael Beale and co appear to be struggling to strike a deal.

Beale is much like Cooper in that he wants to sign Panzo having worked with him previously.

Beale and Panzo know each other from the Chelsea youth setup and a Rangers reunion has been a priority.

Everything seemed to be going so well earlier this month as the Daily Record suggested that Panzo was nearing a £2.5million move to Rangers.

More than two weeks have passed now and Rangers still haven’t pulled off a deal to sign Panzo.

The Scottish Mail on Sunday (25/06, p109) report that Rangers currently aren’t willing to meet Forest’s asking price for Panzo.

Panzo is considered as ‘unlikely’ to play in the top flight next season, but Forest aren’t backing down from their demands.

We now find ourselves at an impasse; Panzo’s escape route is fading away and Forest are left hoping that Rangers – or another team – finally strike a deal at some point soon.
