Exclusive: Leyton Orient Enter Race For Former Swindon Town Star
Leyton Orient are the latest club to express an interest in Hibernian forward Harry McKirdy on a season long loan, sources have informed The Real EFL.
Yesterday it was exclusively revealed that League Two side Colchester United had made an approach for the former Swindon Town forward. However, they could face competition from recently promoted Leyton Orient. Richie Wellens side have reportedly made initial contact over a potential season long loan move for the player after a disappointing first season in the SPFL.
Although Ben Garner’s side are understood to be at a more advanced stage, a chance to play in League One could present a tempting opportunity for McKirdy. After enjoying his best ever season in 21/22 scoring 23 times in 43 appearances for the Robins, he went on to make only 18 appearances in the 22/23 season (five for Swindon).
The 26-year-old is yet to score for Lee Johnson’s side since his deadline day saga last season, as Birmingham City attempted a last minute hijack of the deal. He has landed himself in hot water on a couple of occasions, with his social media antics garnering criticism from his manager.
McKirdy is one of several players targeted for this position and it’s unknown at this stage if he is a prime target or just an option.

Richie Wellens will Be desperate to put together a side capable of competing in League One next season. They’ve already had some high profile departures that need replacing, with League One often being unforgiving to those who start poorly.
With McKirdy they’ll sign a player who has a serious point to prove following very public clashes with Lee Johnson. He’s got ability in abundance but needs nurturing and managing in the right way to get the best out of him. Ben Garner was able to do so in the 21/22 season and reaped the rewards. Can Wellens do the same?
