Brentford youngster Alex Gilbert is set to leave the club amid interest from Nottingham Forest, it has been claimed.

The 21-year-old was named player of the year last season for Brentford’s B team. He was also the top scorer with 16 goals, helping the Bees to win the Premier League Cup.

Along with Forest, Wolves and Middlesbrough have all expressed an interest, as well as teams abroad. The Bees would apparently be entitled to a compensation for the player due to his age, and that is thought to be £1million.

The Londoners are hopeful that “an accord can be found” with the English trio rather than having to go a tribunal. The report adds that talks are expected to take place with all three teams, who are expected to make their pitch.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international joined from West Brom’s academy in 2020. He broke into the first team on two occasions, including an FA Cup appearance against Boro.
