“Done deal”: Leeds United miss out on emerging goalkeeper target to PL club – Fabrizio Romano
Manchester City young goalkeeper James Trafford is set to move to newly-promoted Burnley this month, despite reports recently that Leeds United held interest.
Leeds are needing investment in multiple areas this summer as they plot for their immediate return to the top-flight, under soon-to-be manager Daniel Farke.
With Illan Meslier’s future in doubt, the Whites are going to need to explore the goalkeeper market for a new signing.
James Trafford to Leeds?
The Daily Mail previously reported that Leeds were one of the sides interested in signing Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.
Having spent last season on loan with Bolton, Trafford impressed to the point where he has been due the step up from League One, with Leeds joining Premier League side Burnley in their interest.
Game time under Pep Guardiola is not likely to be in good supply for the 20-year-old, given the competition in front of him.
Where is Trafford heading?
Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a £19million package has been agreed for Trafford to remain in Lancashire for next season, moving to Turf Moor with Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.
Romano reports that a deal is “done” for Trafford to move to the Clarets, with Man City negotiating a hefty sell-on clause of 20
Trafford would have been a good signing for us if we were able to compete financially, but a £19million deal is just not on the cards for us.
Given that Trafford’s best experience comes in League One, it’s an awful lot of money to be spending for Burnley in the top flight.
He could have been worth another loan move to the Championship before making such a leap, but there’s clearly a very talented player there.
