L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi reports this morning that newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Soumaïla Coulibaly on loan with a purchase option of €15m.

Coulibaly joined Borussia Dortmund from PSG in 2021, signing his first professional contract but has played just 61 minutes across two games for Die Schwarzgelben, one in the Champions League and the other in the Bundesliga. A prominent figure in BVB’s second team, the Frenchman played 25 games, and also played four games in the UEFA Youth League.

The Bundesliga market appears to be one that Vincent Kompany and his recruitment team are targeting. The Premier League club announced the permanent signing of Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Jordan Beyer for €15m following a successful loan spell, while the Clarets have also submitted an offer for Wolfsburg’s Aster Vranckx, who spent last season on loan at Milan, and is a compatriot of Kompany.

Leeds United transfer news: Whites consider extremely controversial signing

Leeds United are considering submitting a controversial bid for Burnley left-back and Whites academy product Charlie Taylor.

Leeds United are considering an extremely controversial move for Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor.

He featured 33 times for Vincent Komapany’s title-winning side last season, making nearly 200 appearances for his current club including 133 in the Premier League.

Phil Hay confirmed the club’s intentions in an article for The Athletic on Thursday, stating the Yorkshire club is considering a move for the Leeds Academy product.

Taylor, 29, was born in York and rose through the ranks before making 93 first-team appearances.

He made his Whites debut against Bradford City in the League Cup in August 2011 and soon became a regular in defence.

By the time he requested to leave the club in December 2016, Taylor had made 52 consecutive starts for Leeds.

Maverick boss Massimo Cellino refused to honour the request and made him fulfil the remainder of his contract.

The full-back finished his stint at Elland Road in disgrace as former Leeds boss Gary Monk revealed he refused to play the final game of the season.

“There’s no sugar-coating this – Charlie refused to play the game,” he said.

“I think he’s been terribly advised…I think he’s been poorly advised all season.

“To refuse to play the game, for me as a manager and for the club, that’s unacceptable. I’ve got a lot of time for Charlie, as we all have at the club.”

The news was met with uncertainty among Leeds fans as the story spread on social media with a large volume of Twitter users saying he should never be allowed to play for the club again.

Equally, plenty of people have questioned the validity of Monk’s comments and blamed the state of the club rather than the player.

There’s no doubt his quality and experience could come in handy as Daniel Farke rebuilds but Ryan Manning, also linked, has a higher ceiling and future transfer value.
