Celtic linked with ‘highly-rated’ young striker
Celtic are one of the teams looking to sign up young striker Jack Grieves this summer after he made a breakthrough into the senior Watford squad last season.
Football League World reported this week that many teams are looking at Grieves as a potential signing but that it’s Celtic and Brentford leading the chase.
Described as a ‘highly-rated’ talent at Watford, Grieves is just 18 and lacks experience, so it’s doubtful any move to Celtic would be with the first team immediately in mind. The Bhoys have made similar moves for other young forwards such as Joey Dawson and Johnny Kenny in recent years.
The English Championship side confirmed last month that Grieves had been offered a new contract but it doesn’t appear that has yet been signed as the youngster weighs up his next career move.
Grieves was rewarded for his progress within the Watford set-up last season, playing 36 minutes in an FA Cup defeat to Reading. He made his league debut with a late cameo one week later and was again selected off the bench at home to Stoke City on the final day of the season.
A link to Celtic is little surprise. The club have often looked for bargain moves for young talents in England, owing to the fact that only a relatively low cross-border compensation fee would have to be paid to the other club.
Watford have had issues retaining talents recently with 16-year-old Harry Amass moving to Manchester United and another promising prospect, Adrian Blake, heading to FC Utrecht. Time will tell whether Jack Grieves is
