The recently promoted League One side have fended off competition for the talented shot-stopper securing the player on a season long loan deal from Michael Carrick’s side. The O’s were left searching for a new goalkeeper after the departure of Lawrence Vigouroux to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley. Fellow League One side Lincoln City were credited with an interest earlier in the season, but have since landed Lukas Jensen.

Brynn spent the 22/23 campaign on loan at Swindon Town, during a difficult season for the Robins. Three different managers took charge of games including Scott Lindsey (departed to Crawley) Gavin Gunning (Caretaker) and Jody Morris (Sacked). Despite this the goalkeeper had an impressive season, leading the division for shots saved, despite Vigouroux taking home the Golden Glove award. He did keep 13 clean sheets in 49 games for The Robins in all competitions. He also picked up the club’s Player Of The Year at their annual awards. The player’s form was impressive enough that some had speculated that The former Manchester United assistant manager Carrick would keep him at the club for their upcoming Championship campaign.

Richie Wellens will be hoping to solidify the club’s return to the third tier and potentially push on in an arguably weaker division than in recent years. Wigan have already entered the league with a points deduction whilst Reading are in financial trouble once again. Big hitters such as Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town were promoted leaving a weaker, but much more competitive league.

You couldn’t ask for a much better replacement for Vigouroux. Brynn not only impressed, but he did so at a club that were under a huge amount of scrutiny and pressure from disgruntled fans. Managers were changing and the club were dealing with a squad makeup that was changing week by week.

I would speculate that this was Wellens’ top target, having seen what he can do first hand throughout the League Two season. I’m interested and excited to see how he adapts to League One. He certainly has big gloves to fill.
