Report: Award-winning Super Eagles goalie set to follow Isaac Success, Troost-Ekong’s path

The Super Eagles goalkeeper has been starved of playing time at his English side, and he could leave to find greener pastures

Transfer: Super Eagles goalie, Okoye set to leave Watford - Daily Post Nigeria

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is set to join Italian Serie A club Udinese on a season-long loan deal from English Championship club Watford, Soccernet reports.

Okoye endured a disappointing first season at Vicarage Road. The 23-year-old shot-stopper was the best player at Sparta Rotterdam for two consecutive seasons before Watford swooped in for him last summer.

Unfortunately, the Nigerian goalie failed to inspire confidence at the club and had to watch from the bench throughout the season. In fact, Okoye made just two appearances for Watford last season.

Still, the future at Vicarage Road looks bleak for the Super Eagles star. Okoye now looks set to leave Watford to get playing time.

According to Oma Akatugba, the 23-year-old shot-stopper is set to join Udinese on a loan deal this summer.

Watford and Udinese have a good relationship, as the Pozzo family owns both clubs. This relationship has allowed for the seamless switch of numerous players between both clubs. Nigerian stars William Troost-Ekong and Isaac Success have benefited from the relationship.

Okoye would hope that the deal works out and he wins the heart of Udinese coach Andrea Sottil and get some minutes under his belt.
