Brighton are interested in signing Emil Holm this summer.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Brighton are one of several clubs thought to be keen on securing the services of Emil Holm in this transfer window. West Ham United also want to bring the Spezia star to the Premier League, whilst there is interest from elsewhere in Serie A from the likes of Juventus, Napoli, and Atalanta.
The Swedish right-back was in fantastic form for Spezia last season. Holm made 23 appearances for the Italian side before injury issues cut short his campaign in February. He certainly did enough before his injury to attract the attention of plenty of admirers, with Brighton amongst them.
Who is Emil Holm?
The 23-year-old Swede began his career in his homeland with IFK Goteborg, before making a loan move to Sonderjyske in the Danish Superliga, after Spezia came calling and secured his long-term future. Holm has now established himself at Spezia, and his form for the club has earned him two senior Sweden caps.
At 6’3”, Holm is a towering figure at full-back. He is a reliable aerial presence in both boxes, and has honed his attacking instincts by playing much of his club football so far in his career in a wide-right midfield role.
Holm would be a fantastic fit for Brighton. Roberto De Zerbi already has a clutch of tall, powerful defenders who are solid on the ball at his disposal. Stylistically, Holm would slot in well amongst the likes of Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster, and Jan Paul van Hecke, albeit he would be operating on the flanks. The Seagulls are focusing on improving their rearguard this summer, and the signing of Holm would be a smart step in the right direction. They will have to beat off plenty of competition to secure his services though.

Brighton are in talks to sign Leicester City target Cole Palmer, it has been reported.
Palmer is attracting interest from a number of clubs as Manchester City are set to make a decision on his future after he returns from a post-Euros break. Palmer played a significant part in England Under-21’s Euro success after beating Spain 1-0 in the final.
Leicester meanwhile, are hopeful Enzo Maresca’s connections to City will aid their transfer business this summer. The club have already signed Callum Doyle from the Etihad on a season-long deal.
However, securing a deal for Palmer may prove more complicated. That’s because Burnley and the Seagulls have also been credited with an interest.
According to the Daily Mail, Brighton are ahead of the competition and “remain in talks” with City over a deal for the 21-year-old. It adds that Palmer was initially targeted for a permanent deal but City are reluctant to sell.
Previous reports claimed Leicester and Burnley were “heading the chase” for his signing but they are now be facing fierce competition from the Seagulls. City’s relegation to the Championship may prove a key issue in their efforts to sign Palmer.
The feeling is that Palmer “is too good” to play in the second division after featuring 25 times under Pep Guardiola and winning the treble last season.
