Wolves following ‘dynamic’ 21-year-old from Man City who ‘runs like De Bruyne’

Wolves are reportedly following Manchester City’s young midfielder Tommy Doyle.

Wanderers have already lost two midfielders this summer.

Ruben Neves left to join Al Hilal, while Joao Moutinho departed Molineux as a free agent.

Julen Lopetegui still has a nice pool of options, including Matheus Nunes, Mario Lemina, Joao Gomes, Boubacar Traore and Joe Hodge.

But there is a feeling that Wolves need more.

And it would appear the club are ready to turn to one of City’s top youngsters…

Wolves showing interest in Tommy Doyle

Italian journalist Rudy Galletti has told Give Me Sport that Doyle is ‘followed by several Premier League clubs, including Wolves.’

Last season, Doyle played on loan at Sheffield United and enjoyed a productive spell.

He helped the Blades seal promotion back to the Premier League, making 38 appearances across all competitions.

He scored four goals for the club, and also grabbed seven assists.

Doyle’s stock is high at the moment. His game has developed further as a result of playing a season in the Championship.

He is described a ‘dynamic midfielder’ by the official City website. And a feature from The Athletic a few years ago also suggested he ‘Runs like (Kevin) De Bruyne’. This gives the indication that he is a box-to-box player.

It remains to be seen if Wolves do go in with a bid.

There is potential he could be quite expensive looking at some other deals City have done so far this summer.

James Trafford is about to sign for Burnley in a deal reported to be worth £19 million.

And Shea Charles has already joined Southampton for a fee that could reach £15 million.

Tommy Doyle in could see Joe Hodge leave on loan

If Wolves do indeed have some interest in Doyle and move to bring him in, then it will be interesting to see what would happen with Joe Hodge.

Hodge, who used to play for City himself, is just one year younger than Doyle and so it is perhaps unlikely Lopetegui would have both in his squad. Especially since there is also Traore (21) and Gomes (22).

It is known that Lopetegui has been a fan of Hodge ever since he arrived at Molineux.

But it might just be that if Doyle came in, then a loan move would beckon.

Clubs did show interest in Hodge earlier this year but Lopetegui didn’t want him departing in case he needed him.

Perhaps he could get a first loan move of his career this summer.
