Transfer Battle: Wolves set to battle West Ham in hunt for 23-year-old “impressive asset”

Wolves and West Ham ‘plot move’ for Emiliano Martinez but Everton and Luton Town also keen

The latest transfer news in the Premier League as Wolves, West Ham and Everton consider an approach for Emiliano Martinez.

Martinez wins back possession from Sporting Lisbon midfielder Pedro Goncalves during the Europa League round of 32 clash in Lisbon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly among a host of Premier League clubs preparing an approach for FC Midtjylland midfielder Emiliano Martinez.

Not to be confused with the Aston Villa goalkeeper and World Cup winner, this Martinez is most certainly an outfield player and has gained plenty of attention.

A full Uruguay international, Martinez only signed for Midtjjlland in January but could be on the move again already after impressing throughout 24 Superligaen appearances.

Footy Insider reports Wolves and West Ham United hold a strong interest in the former Red Bull Bragantino man, whereas Tribal Football claims Luton Town and Everton are also in the mix.

All four clubs are looking to recruit a deep-lying midfielder and Martinez fits that bill as he has played 82 times as a defensive anchor, while 13 games have been further forward.

Wolves need someone after Ruben Neves left, West Ham want depth following Declan Rice’s departure, and both Luton and Everton are hoping to strengthen to avoid relegation.

Martinez, who turns 24 in August, has plenty of experience in international and continental club competitions having played 11 times in Copa Libertadores.

He’s also featured on seven occasions in the Europa League since the turn of the year.

Journalist claims Spurs are no longer interested in reported centre-back target

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham Hotspur are no longer interested in making a move for Max Kilman this summer, as they may have been put off by the poor season Wolves endured last year.

Speaking of poor seasons, Tottenham didn’t fare much better than Wolves last term. An area of particular concern for Spurs in the 2022/23 campaign was in defence, with the club conceding 63 goals in the Premier League.

As a result, new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou made it clear to the club’s board that he would need to sign at least one new centre-back this summer (90 Min).

All the talk surrounding Tottenham’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements appears to suggests both Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven are the top targets in that area (Paul Brown for GiveMeSport).

There are other options out there, with Wolves centre-half Max Kilman among those who have been mentioned in the same breath as Spurs (TuttoMercatoWeb).

However, the latest update from Ben Jacobs suggests Tottenham are no longer tracking Kilman and will not be making a move for him.

On Spurs’ hunt for a new defender, Jacobs told The Debrief podcast: “On the centre-backs, Fabrizio [Romano] said about some of the targets, Tapsoba and van de Ven, and even Adarabioyo at Fulham could be a possibility as well.

“Previously they have explored Max Kilman, but he’s not on their radar at the moment, but he’s another who is good under pressure and in tight spaces.

“Maybe what put them off is the fact he didn’t have as good a season last campaign as the one before.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Max Kilman is a good, solid defender and would certainly not be a bad signing, but the likes of Tapsoba and van de Ven are better.

We should be putting all our efforts and attention into signing one of those two, but could well return for Kilman if anything goes wrong with the pursuit of our top targets.
