Report: Wolves are getting closer and closer to signing £14m player now

Wolverhampton Wanderers are moving closer in the race to sign Mateo Retegui.

Netherlands v Italy - UEFA Nations League 2022/23 Third-place match

The Argentine born Italy international is in the midst of a top class season for Club Atletico Tigre.

He has impressed with his 11 goals in in 20 Liga Professional appearances, accounting for 50% of his teams tally.

Retegui has been immense for Tigre since his arrival from Boca Juniors two years ago.

He now looks set to make a European move, with Genoa in Italy agreeing an £11.6million deal.

However late interest from Old Gold seems to have shaken this transfer up, with Wolves now favourites.

According to Argentine outlet, Olé, Julen Lopetegui‘s Wolves have submitted a bid worth £14m which blows Genoa out of the water.

The report continues that the two sides are brought closer in their offers by future sale percentages, making it a close race.

It also adds that the transfer for the 24-year-old is close with it being a “matter of filing details” to close a move to either side.

Wolves are hopeful that the opportunity to play in the Premier League will ‘seduce’ the 3-cap Italian.

Aston Villa are another side credited with interest, as TNT Sports reported on Friday that Unai Emery wants the forward.

Who will win the race?

Retegui's Father: 'Many European clubs have been looking for him'

As of now, it would be a safe assumption to think Wolves hold the cards in this competitive transfer race.

They have offered the most money and can under Lopetegui offer an extremely attractive project for which he could play a pivotal role.

The Italian has all the qualities required to be a huge success in the Premier League and we hope he makes the move.

We also suspect, it won’t be long until we find out his next destination, fingers crossed it is the Molineux.
