Latest news: Portsmouth link with SPFL most wanted star

Bosun Lawal admired as EFL boss comments on transfer links with Celtic defender

Portsmouth boss, John Mousinho has denied that he is interested in young Celtic defender Bosun Lawal. The League One boss was asked about the links after his team’s 9-1 preseason win over Crawley Town and whilst he is an admirer of Lawal, Mousinho quashed the rumour.

Mousinho said [Bristol World], “There’s nothing in that, I don’t know where it has come from.

“We don’t need any more centre-halves, we have five and Connor (Ogilvie) can cover as well, so we are absolutely fine.

“Bosun is a really good young player, but I genuinely don’t know where that has come from.”

Does Bosun Lawal have a long-term future at Celtic?

Young Lawal has been training with the Celtic first team for a number of months now and was taken to Japan by Brendan Rodgers as part of the tour squad and made an appearance in the 1-0 win over Gamba Osaka

He made his first-team debut for Celtic in the 5-0 thrashing of Morton in the fourth round of last season’s Scottish Cup win at Celtic Park.

Lawal is very highly rated at Celtic and it looks like the 20-year-old could have a bright future at the club. I would imagine that if any interest was real, a loan move would be preferred by Celtic as they look to continue the youngster’s development.

With Celtic looking set to announce the signing of Polish defender, Maik Nawrocki in the coming days, Lawal may well find it difficult to get first-team experience this season.

Lawal would be the sixth-choice defender behind Stephen Welsh and Yuki Kobayashi and is likely to continue to play for Celtic B in the Lowland League next season.

There is no doubt young Lawal has talent and promise and could have a big future at Celtic. If he continues to develop and improve then we could see him in the Celtic first-team sometime in the near future.
