Everton and Nottingham Forest handed boosts in pursuit of Swansea City standout
Swansea City striker Joel Piroe wants a move to the Premier League and his preference would be to join Everton or Nottingham Forest, the Swansea Independent has said.
Dutch striker Piroe has starred in the Championship for two consecutive seasons now.
Swansea City signed the 23-year-old from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 and since then, he’s managed 44 goals in 92 games for the club, chipping in with eight assists as well while becoming one of the second-tier’s most dangerous strikers.
Unsurprisingly, Piroe has drawn plenty of interest from elsewhere amid such success and now, his preference has emerged in a report from the Swansea Independent.
They state that linked duo Everton and Nottingham Forest are his preferred choices as he eyes a Premier League move. A switch that will see him stay in the Championship does not appeal to Piroe, dealing a blow to rumoured suitors Leicester City and Southampton.
Piroe has a year left on his contract with Swansea and an exit looks likely this summer.
Will a move materialise?
Piroe has a year left on his Swansea deal and given that he’s already proven himself in the Championship, he has no reason not to head for pastures new. A step up to top-flight football should await the Dutchman but time will tell just where he’ll end up.
The pieces need to fall into place for a move to come to fruition though. Everton and Nottingham Forest are both solid options and both have shown they’ve got the funds to spend but it remains to be seen whether or not they’ll firm up their interest.
This news of Piroe’s preference could prompt them to act, so his situation will be one to keep an eye on over the course of next month.
Report: Everton will now demand seven-figure fee if ‘incredible’ player leaves on loan
Everton will demand a £1 million loan fee for Tom Cannon.
Alan Nixon has told his Patreon that the Toffees will allow the striker to leave the club this summer, but only if they receive an extra payment.
Cannon scored eight goals during a six-month loan spell with Preston North End last season and caught the eye of many, with former striker Dean Ashton hailing him as ‘incredible’. The forward now has a long list of potential suitors queuing up to bring him back to the Championship.
The Lilywhites are eager to welcome him back to Deepdale, while Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday are all targeting the youngster.
Cannon could have challenged for a place in Everton’s matchday squad following Ellis Simms’ move to Coventry City, however reports have claimed that Sean Dyche’s side could look to temporarily offload him if they are able to bring in a replacement first.
The £1m loan fee will allow Everton to invest in their squad this summer after struggling with financial issues, though it is unclear whether all interested parties will be willing to cough up the cash to bring Cannon in on loan.
Is a return to Preston for Tom Cannon the best place to send him on loan?
Preston North End have recently looked the most likely to capture Tom Cannon, though it appears to be more of a level playing field as we head into the weekend.
The 20-year-old was excellent for the Lilywhites last season and could excel further if he is given a longer period at Deepdale, while he already knows the players, staff and fans well.
However, Cannon could thrive even more if he was given a chance at a team further up the table. The likes of Sunderland and Rovers could provide a much more competitive campaign for the striker, while the former are known very well for developing young players.
