West Brom accept offer from Luton Town for Alex Palmer

West Brom have accepted an offer from Luton Town for goalkeeper Alex Palmer ahead of the new season, according to Tom Collomosse.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (29 July), the Daily Mail journalist reports that the Premier League club have had an offer accepted for the 26-year-old shot-stopper as the Baggies need investment.

The club have decided to accept the offer for an undisclosed amount as they have Josh Griffiths at the club, who at 21-years-old is seen as having a big future at the club.

“West Brom accept offer from Luton for goalkeeper Alex Palmer,” he wrote.

“Club had two good goalkeepers in Palmer and Josh Griffiths. They also need investment this summer.

“At 21, Griffiths is five years younger.”

Crazy

West Brom need money, and the fact this is the first summer without parachute payments definitely plays a part, but this is a crazy turn of events.

Palmer has started pre-season as the number one goalkeeper once again and with the new season set to start in a week there was no expectation that he would be leaving.

However with Luton struggling to find a new stopper they have moved quickly and with our financial situation the way it is, it seems as though we didn’t really have a choice but to accept the offer.

It will be interesting to find out how much the bid is actually for, but if the club see Josh Griffiths as a potential number one for the future then this is the perfect opportunity to do that and give him that chance.

The money can be reinvested into other areas of the squad so Carlos Corberan can push for promotion, but at this stage of the window Palmer’s exit is a massive blow.
