David Moyes now plunged into further West Ham United uncertainty as Gianluca Scamacca transfer news emerge
West Ham United have finally agreed a loan-to-buy deal for Gianluca Scamacca to join Roma this summer potentially handing manager David Moyes more transfer uncertainty this summer.
According to CalcioMercato (29 July), personal terms are already agreed between Scamacca and the Giallorossi and the two clubs are now close to agreeing on all the terms of the deal, with Roma’s general manager Pinto flying to London next week to close the deal.
West Ham were hopeful of recouping some of the £30m they spent to sign Scamacca only a year ago and therefore have opted to negotiate an expensive loan deal, with Roma set to pay between £3.4m – £4.3m to secure his services for the campaign.
After that, there will be an option to make the deal permanent for a fee of around £19m if Roma are to qualify for the Champions League and Scamacca is consistently involved and agrees with the move.
However, it is believed that West Ham don’t want a permanent deal to be based on European qualification by Jose Mourinho’s side.
Scamacca’s desire is abundantly clear after what he’s done in previous weeks, giving an interview with the Italian press about his desire to join Roma while also liking a picture involving Jose Mourinho’s side on Instagram.
Also, he removed the writing “West Ham player” from his Instagram profile which shows just how much he is desperate to depart East London this summer.
The Italian now follows Declan Rice out the London Stadium doors and there could well be more exits lying in wait, with Nikola Vlasic set to leave, Pablo Fornals also garnering much interest and Michail Antonio also facing an uncertain future in East London.
While the Hammers will be peeking into their transfer warchest with much glee and excitement, especially following the £105m sale for Rice, the club are no closer to finding their ideal replacement or two, with a bid rejected for James Ward-Prowse after suffering the same fate with Conor Gallagher, and Joao Palhinha.
West Ham have also had a £20m bid rejected for Harry Maguire.
It certainly seems as if the £100m-plus fee that the Irons received from the Rice sale has become a stumbling block in itself as clubs now know that West Ham have money in the bank to spend, and will inflate prices for their star players as a result.
The new Premier League campaign kicks off in exactly two weeks, with no new signings yet to come through the door at the London Stadium. And the developments regarding the future of a number of their key stars will plunge Moyes and technical director Tim Steidten into further transfer uncertainty in the coming weeks.
Scamacca is a superb talent and a player with a raft of potential to thrive in the future, for which the £35m will have turned out to be an absolute bargain should he have succeeded, but that looks a distinct impossibility now, for which West Ham United must identify a replacement not only for the Italian but potentially for Antonio, to go along with their extensive and frustrating attempts to secure Rice’s replacement.
The way things are looking right about now in East London, it appears as if West Ham United may be entering the new campaign in worse shape than they left the previous. Worrying times for Moyes.
