Transfer news: Everton move to sign ‘Tremendous’ int’l midfielder

Journalist reveals Everton interest in ‘Tremendous’ Jordan James, Euro clubs also watching him

Everton have been watching Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James during pre-season, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported on his Patreon on Sunday (30 July) that the Blues are not the only side showing an interest in the Wales international, with Serie A clubs also potentially plotting a move for him.

But Nixon said the 19-year-old, who former boss Lee Bowyer once referred to as a “tremendous asset”, is happy to stay at Birmingham as he wants to play first-team football.

“Birmingham City whizz mid Jordan James is happy to stay despite Premier League and Serie A interest,” said Nixon.

“Welsh midfield wizard James wants to play first-team football and Blues are now looking to use him in the Championship. Everton have been watching James in pre-season while Italian clubs have also picked up on his potential.”

Different approach

The interest being shown by Everton in James as well as other youngsters this summer indicates that the club are trying to go down a different path by bringing in some potential players for the future.

This could be a deal that’s not easy to get over the line with the interest from clubs abroad as well as the midfielder’s desire to continue playing regular football, but a move to Goodison Park would no doubt still be tempting for him.

The Toffees could potentially persuade him to join by offering him the opportunity to go back out on loan to Birmingham or elsewhere if his first-team opportunities are likely to be reduced.

He is highly thought of by the Championship club, where he has so far made 58 appearances despite still only being 19, as well as in the Welsh national team setup after making his debut against Croatia in March.

It’s unclear whether Everton are going to firm up their interest with an offer, but it could be worth doing so soon before other clubs potentially steal a march in the race to sign him.
