26-year-old linked with Wolves will leave this window, his club want at least £13m

Franck Kessie will reportedly leave Barcelona in this transfer window, after he was overlooked for minutes against Real Madrid.

The Ivory Coast international’s stint with the Spanish giants is about to come to an end.

Barca faced Real on Saturday in the US, with Barca running out 3-0 winners.

There was no involvement though for Kessie, who was left on the bench.

SPORT have now reported about the player’s situation – and there is potential significance for Wolves.

According to SPORT, it has been made clear to Kessie that he will not have any minutes in the coming season.

The publication suggest that his departure could now be imminent.

And he is happy to go; apparently he’s opened the door for the club to invite offers from other clubs.

SPORT note that it was actually quite surprising that Kessie did not play against Real Madrid. Because last season Xavi regularly put Kessie on when Barca were defending leads, they say.

Apparently, Kessie gives priority to the Premier League.

A number of clubs are said to have expressed an interest in him. He would prefer to move to a ‘Big Six’ club, but Aston Villa and Wolves were also touted as potential next destinations recently.

It’s stated that Barca don’t want to sell for less than £13 million.

Juventus, another club that are interested, are planning a loan offer with an obligation to buy.

It is also mentioned at Kessie has been very professional despite his frustrating situation and so, Barca are ready to work with him to facilitate a move.

Kessie is a player Wolves have had on their radar for quite a while.

The club looked at him while he was at AC Milan.

Of course right now, Wanderers still have FFP issues and more player sales are needed, which is frustrating Julen Lopetegui.

But perhaps there is a deal to be done here.

Juve are apparently seeing about a loan move with an obligation to buy.

Perhaps that is something that could work for Wolves in that, payment would obviously not be made until next year.

But who knows if Barcelona would be willing to talk about such a proposal. You would like to think, though, that after the deals involving Nelson Semedo, Francisco Trincao and Adama Traore that there would be a good relationship between the clubs.

Wolves have made no secret of their financial woes during the summer transfer market.

However, the situation now looks more dire than first feared, with Lopetegui explaining in an interview with Guillem Balague that the club currently cannot afford to sign players.

“We went to a plan B, trying to think about cost-effective players, but we can’t develop this plan too. We lost a lot of players, and we think the club want to sell more players,” Lopetegui told the Spanish journalist.

Wolves have signed two players this summer, with goalkeeper Tom King and former wing-back Matt Doherty arriving on free transfers.

Meanwhile, star man Ruben Neves has departed for Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal, whilst pivotal dressing room figures such as Joao Moutinho, Adama Traore, Conor Coady and Raul Jimenez have left Molineux.

Earlier this month, The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed Wolves had turned down a bid €35m (£30m) from Napoli for centre-back Kilman and wouldn’t consider any offers below €40m (£35m).

The Telegraph’s John Percy then claimed the 26-year-old had entered contract negotiations to remain at Wolves and is in contention to become club captain following the departures of Neves and Coady.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti recently told GIVEMESPORT that Wanderers are in “open talks” to keep Kilman, once dubbed “pure class” by journalist Jacqui Oatley.

And Jones believes that Wolves’ finances being in dire straits means that Kilman’s price tag will be driven up, despite Napoli developing a “fresh optimism” over his signature.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Over in Italy, there is fresh optimism that a new bid for Kilman could be successful.

“Napoli see the Wolves exodus and find it hard to believe that signing Kilman could not be possible in some way.

“Earlier in the window, I was surprised Wolves were not cashing in on Kilman at £30m. It seemed a lot of money for him, and I know they are trying to hold out for more, but now there is the added layer of a new season on our doorstep, and with that in mind, I think he probably has even more value to Wolves right now.

“I was told then that if Napoli would pay £35m, it would get the deal going, but now I’m not so sure. It might even take a little more than that.”
