Swansea City Close In On Signing Of In Demand Talent
Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino has completed a move to Championship side Swansea, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.
The midfielder is all but certain to leave the Emirates this summer, with offers coming in from the Championship and abroad for the starlet. And Romano reports that the Swans are close to completing the signing of Patino, who spent last season on loan with relegated side Blackpool.
The Swans have been busy in the transfer market since Russell Martin left for Southampton, and Michael Duff has added plenty of new faces to the squad this summer, including Josh Key, Josh Ginnelly and Jerry Yates. Patino joins on a season-long loan, with Duff admitting he wants three new signings for his team.
The 19-year-old midfielder impressed last season in the Championship with Blackpool, who were relegated to the third tier, and he joins Jerry Yates, who the Swans signed from the Seasiders this summer, with Kyle Joseph heading in the opposite direction. Patino made 34 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring twice and picking up four assists. The Arsenal academy talent has featured twice for the Gunners in North London, making his debut from the bench against Sunderland in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup in December 2021. He picked up a goal in that 10-minute cameo for the Premier League side.
The Englishman has been included in several matchday squads for the North London club but is yet to play any minutes in the Premier League. And that appeared to have frustrated Patino, who seemed set to depart the Emirates this summer permanently.
Writer’s View
Patino is highly rated at Arsenal and is considered one of the club’s top academy talents. He seemed to be a huge loss this summer should he have left permanently. However, it seems that the young midfielder has been convinced of his value to the Gunners, and he can be a solid asset to Michael Duff’s team this season.
