Nottingham Forest transfer news: Reds want player once compared to Frenkie de Jong
Nottingham Forest are one of the clubs chasing Jerdy Schouten this summer. The Reds are competing to sign the player who is also wanted by PSV to replace Ibrahim Sangare if he leaves.
According to Dagblad, the Reds are in the mix to land the 26-year-old before the transfer window closes. He’s thought to be unhappy at his current club Bologna and wants to leave.
The player is also wanted by AC Milan during the current transfer window. Although PSV are the club that the player wants to join, it’s thought that they’re not keen on paying what Bologna want for him.
Forest are switching their focus to the signing of a central midfielder to Schouten after being left frustrated in their push to sign Sangare. That was always going to be a tough deal to do, with several top clubs in the mix to sign him.
This isn’t the first time that the player has been linked with a move to the Premier League. He was linked with West Ham and Arsenal previously and he’s been compared to Frenkie de Jong.
Schouten has been with Bologna since signing from Excelsior in 2019. He’s made 109 appearances for the Serie A outfit and has also made his debut for the Netherlands national team.
Forest now chasing Schouten before window closes
The Reds now need to ensure that they get their squad finalised before the transfer window closes. Forest have only signed three new additions and that won’t do ahead of a tough campaign.
In a bizarre turn of events, they now want the player that PSV would like to sign if Sangare goes. The £32 million-rated player is wanted by a number of clubs including Forest, Bayern Munich and PSG.
Schouten was on the bench on Friday night for Bologna as they on in the Italian Cup against Cesena. He looks to be on his way out of the club though given the nature of the interest in him.
Rumour rating: 7/10 – Although he’d likely be an unknown quantity, this looks like a decent deal for the Reds to do.
Schouten is a player that is unlikely to break the bank for the Reds and ultimately he’d likely be a cheaper alternative to Sangare for Forest.
