Brentford have resurrected talks with Nottingham Forest over Brennan Johnson after initially appearing to pull out of the race for the 22-year-old.

The Bees saw their last bid of £43million rejected by Forest as they look for a fee closer to their valuation for the Wales international.

Tottenham are also interested in Johnson with Ange Postecoglou a big fan of the Forest star’s capability to play in numerous positions.

A product of Forest’s academy, Johnson has made 108 senior appearances for the club and has scored 29 goals, while he has provided 12 assists.

On the international stage he has played 20 times for Wales and scored twice.

He featured in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup second round defeat against Burnley in what is likely to be his swansong appearance for the club before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.

Speaking afterwards, Forest manager Steve Cooper explained: ‘The speculation is not affecting us – Brennan played the part we wanted him to play,’ said Cooper.

However, Brentford’s recent efforts to try and lure Johnson to the capital could be hijacked by Tottenham who are set to make a late offer to Forest.

Spurs want to reinforce their options before the transfer window closes after an impressive start to the new Premier League season, taking seven points from their first three games.

Tottenham been active in the summer market already bringing in James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Alejo Veliz and Manor Solomon, while Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro joined permanently after loan spells.

Spurs have also discussed a potential loan for Barcelona’s Ansu Fati, but the player is now set to join Brighton and the club ideally need a homegrown signing rather than stretch their foreign quota further.

Meanwhile, Forest are moving closer to a deal for Chelsea wantaway Callum Hudson-Odoi after entering advanced talks with the Blues.

Hudson-Odoi is set to be reunited with Steve Cooper, his former England youth manager once an agreement is reached between the two clubs.
