Leeds United have withdrawn midfielder Archie Gray from the England Under-19 squad because of a minor fitness concern, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist shared the news via his personal Twitter account, where he also detailed that the club are trying to manage his load and make sure he’s fit for their Championship clash with Millwall.

The 17-year-old has played in every game so far this season under the tutelage of Daniel Farke, as he has stepped up in the absence of some of the club’s star players over the summer transfer window.

He’s stepped up at a crucial time

The youngster has impressed fans and neutrals alike with his performances at Elland Road, despite his club’s turbulent start to the new season, as he has stepped up to fill the gap left by departing players after the exodus from Yorkshire following the club’s relegation.

Currently, he will be hoping to keep new signings Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara out of the team after a string of impressive performances, as he continues his rapid rise to become a key player in Farke’s first-choice team.

Kamara and Gruev both arrived on deadline day, with the former featuring on the bench in Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, but neither were deemed fit enough or ready to feature from the start.

The club are displaying their trust and faith in the midfielder with this move, ensuring he does not aggravate a potential injury, and sending a message to the player that they will rely on him despite the arrival of more senior players as they ensure his fitness for their next game.
