The Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, has declared his desire to create a “Scottish core” at the club.

Celtic have been blessed with a wealth of Scottish players over the years, and this continues to be the case in the present day, with regular starters such as Callum McGregor, and Greg Taylor.

In order to take advantage of the home-grown quota in Europe, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has identified the importance of having a core of players from the club’s home country. Rodgers stated that having a Scottish mentality around the squad, such as Callum McGregor, Greg Taylor, and James Forrest, is essential.

It is likely that Celtic’s current core of Scottish professionals will remain in place for an extended period of time, with Rodgers as their manager. Rodgers has stated that if he were working in Spain, he would strive for a Spanish-style squad, whereas in Scotland, he would prefer a Scottish-style squad that is well-versed in the club’s culture.

Celtic’s Scottish players may not always be performing to the best of their abilities, but there are still a select few who have been able to make an impact. Rodgers is likely to be keen to keep players such as Callum McGregor and Taylor around for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, Rodgers is unlikely to be hesitant to bring in new Scottish talent, though he has revealed that no one has impressed him yet. He stated, “I haven’t been back long enough. It was similar when I first arrived. John McGinn and a few others were mentioned. I’m sure there will be a few Scottish players who will catch the Hoops manager’s eye over the course of Rodgers’ second stay in Glasgow. For now, however, he will be concentrating on getting results, beginning with Saturday’s match against Dundee.
