BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION KEEPER WILLIAMS JOINS MELBOURNE VICTORY
Brighton & Hove Albion keeper Lydia Williams has completed a move to Australian club Melbourne Victory.
The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning. The transfer was completed prior to the closure of the overseas summer transfer window on Thursday night.
Williams joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the January transfer window and she shared the club’s goalkeeping duties with Megan Walsh in the second half of last season. The keeper made nine appearances for The Seagulls in all competitions. The player’s stay with the Sussex club was a brief one with Williams now returning home to her native Australia with Melbourne Victory.
Speaking after Williams’ departure was announced, Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips said “Lydia has an opportunity to return to Australia and we respect her wishes. In the time she was with us, she was professional in everything she did and played an important role for us in the second half of last season.
“We wish her all the best for the future and thank her for her efforts with the club.”
Brighton & Hove Albion strengthened their Goalkeeping Union on Transfer Deadline Day with the additions of Nicky Evrard and Sophie Baggaley.
