Rangers striker Todd Cantwell is expected to be out for a few weeks after sustaining a serious knee injury in the club’s 3-0 loss to Celtic, according to their manager Michael Beale on Friday.

“Unfortunately Todd Cantwell will miss probably the next three or four games, as a result of the challenge at the end of the game,” he told the media. (Rangers)

Given that Cantwell had been clattered by a terrific Odin Thiago Holm challenge in the final seconds of the match, many Celtic supporters took Beale’s comments to mean that the Norwegian had been the one to inflict the damage on the former Norwich City man.

However, Beale was asked again about Cantwell’s injury later in his press conference and shared: “It was a problem with his knee in a challenge that he had at the end of the game.

“He played on after that. We had to send him for a scan. The initial diagnosis was four weeks.”

Since Holm’s challenge came just before full-time, it would have to have been an injury earlier in the game for him to have been able to “play on”.

Celtic fan Slimshady1961 also pointed out on Twitter that Cantwell was “left in agony” after a strong but “fair” challenge from Hoops striker Daizen Maeda in the second half.

The video below is taken from the LMC Vlogs review of the match:

It’s a great watch, with the incident coming at 11:22

In the vlog, Maeda stands up after the half and steps over Cantwell, who is in obvious pain. We would never want anyone to get hurt, but the tackle was fair from Maeda’s point of view. Cantwell was just unlucky, but we love Maeda’s no-holds-barred attitude. It summed up Celtic’s mentality that day.
