Kyogo Furuhashi made a massive error for Feyenoord’s opening goal against Celtic on Tuesday (19 September).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton said Kyogo should never have been put on the end of the wall as the Hoops defended the Dutch side’s free kick.

As shown on TNT Sports (19 September), the Celts conceded just before half time after a Feyenoord corner beat the wall to find the back of the net.

Joe Hart’s poor positioning and Kyogo turning away as the ball came towards him put the Hoops 1-0 down in what was an evenly matched first half in the Netherlands.

Things went from bad to worse for the Hoops in the second half when they conceded a second goal and were reduced to nine men after Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Thiago Holm were sent off.

When asked if Kyogo’s positioning was the main reason Celtic conceded the free kick, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think so.

Normally you get the bravest there. A tall player who is brave who will take it in the face. You know it is going to be a left footed strike so it would need to be the biggest guy in that position.

I thought Feyenoord were quite clever that they ran across Kyogo to leave that space. There were loads of things that went wrong. I do not think Kyogo should be there and he turns his back on it.
