Gavin Strachan receives Birthday Wishes from Celtic

Today it’s Celtic First Team Coach, Gavin Strachan’s birthday. The son of former manager, Gordon has enjoyed a mixed success since his arrival from down in the English lower leagues. He arrived at the club during Neil Lennon’s ill-fated second spell in charge and has received his share of flak for the way we imploded during the Covid season.

The Celtic supporters were prone to taking the mickey out of the coach for his use of the iPad to use tactical notes and observations. It wasn’t a great time for anyone to be involved with Celtic but especially the coaching staff. Our season imploded and the fans weren’t ready to forgive the horrors of that episode.

However, when Greek-Aussie, Ange Postecoglou decided to leave the J-League and Yokahama F. Marinos behind, he astounded everybody when he revealed that he wished for Strachan and John Kennedy to remain in situ for the time being until he had assessed the staff at Lennoxtown. It was a move that drew scepticism from many quarters and who could blame them at the time?

But, Ange knew what we all didn’t; they were obviously decent coaches. And so it has proved as we won a League and Cup Double in his first season with Gavin Strachan by his side and assisting the team through some pretty rough periods. We managed to wrestle the title back at the first time of asking and Gavin played his part in that recovery.

Happy Birthday, Gavin!
