Former Celtic star Moussa Dembele is absolutely flying in Saudi Arabia
Former Celtic star Moussa Dembele is absolutely flying in Saudi Arabia.
The French forward is playing for Al Ettifaq — the team managed by Steven Gerrard and featuring Jack Hendry, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum. He signed for them in late July.
Dembele‘s career has hit the rocks a little in recent times. He had a hard time of it last season with Lyon and then made the surprising move to Saudi Arabia at the age of 27.
But the big man scores goals wherever he goes. That is how things are playing out in his new home.
Dembele netted twice in Ettifaq’s thrilling 4-3 win over Al Taee on Thursday evening. That followed on from a goal against Abha and another brace against Damac prior to the international break.
It’s five goals in three matches and six in six in this season’s Saudi Pro League. Looking at the league’s top scorers, only Cristiano Ronaldo (7) has netted more this campaign.
While Dembele’s exploits are now happening a fair bit away from the gaze of European football, it is still great to see that he hasn’t lost his scoring touch.
As we covered earlier in the week with Odsonne Edouard, it’s good to see players leaving Celtic and continuing to excel.
With Scottish and Spanish league titles under his belt, he will now be hunting another title in Saudi Arabia. Al Ettifaq are two points off the top.
