Celtic’s star has been named in the SPFL Team of the Week.

Matt O'Riley claims Celtic could win Champions League as he addresses prospect of summer exits

Celtic’s Matt O’Riley has been included in this week’s cinch SPFL Team of the Week. The midfielder was beaten by fellow Celtic star Greg Taylor to the Man of the Match award at the weekend on Sky Sports, but O’Riley has managed to be included as the only one from the club in this week’s choices.

There is only one Hoops star included which is quite odd considering the impact Matty, Greg Taylor and Daizen Maeda all had on the game at the Toni Macaroni Arena against Livingston. All three could quite easily have been included by the SPFL for their display in helping 10-man Celtic destroy David Martindale and his team 3-0.

Danish youth international, O’Riley, has really come into his own under the new management with Brendan Rodgers. When Rodgers first came to the club Matt admitted it was nice that the manager mingled with the players at lunchtime and stuff and was really personal. It was a welcome change for the former MK Dons man who thought the more hands on approach was a nice touch.

Now thriving in his role within the team, he’s starting to really turn the screw at the minute and we’ll need him to keep up that great form as we battle domestically and on the continent. We have massive games coming up in October and can still qualify for the European knockout rounds if we have a strong showing against Lazio and Atletico Madrid at Celtic Park.

There are other trips to Fir Park, Tyncastle, and Easter Road on the horizon for the Bhoys, with O’Riley playing a major role in all of them. The team is still finding its footing, and we’re all waiting for top gear. But if we can go to Pittodrie, Ibrox, and now the Toni Macaroni not at our best and still be four points clear at the top of the table, we should be fine.
