Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he has no idea how close Japanese midfielder Reo Hatate is to signing a new contract, despite prior rumours claiming that it was only a matter of time (Football Scotland).

Celtic have been in contact with Hatate’s representatives for several weeks, and it was initially assumed that the midfielder would commit to his future before the summer transfer market closed. However, the deadline passed, and despite rumours earlier this week indicating that the Japanese international was now close to putting pen to paper, it appears that it will be some time before negotiations are finalised.

Rodgers was asked if an agreement was close to being reached ahead of the Hoops’ trip to Motherwell this weekend, and he answered, “I’ll speak to them.”

The former Hearts star has finally signed a new contract.

Arnaud Djoum, a former Hearts midfielder, has joined Union St Gilloise ‘B’ after leaving Dundee United in the summer. The 34-year-old had been a free agent since his unsuccessful spell in Tayside, but he has now agreed to join the Belgian Division 2 ACFF side, which is in the fourth tier of their pyramid structure.

Djoum had a significantly more profitable stint at Tynecastle, where he remained from 2015 to 2019, than in the Forth, scoring 15 goals and earning 18 assists in 132 appearances. Cameron has formerly played for Akhisar Belediyespor, Al-Read, Apollon Limassol, Brussels, and Anderlecht.
