After winning promotion from League One to the Championship last season, Kieran McKenna’s team took to the second tier like a duck to water.

Indeed, it is certainly early to make a final assessment, but the Tractor Boys look like a team that will top the table this campaign, rather than looking nervously behind.

Of course, as well as having talented young coach Kieran McKenna, their strong start can also be attributed to the talented squad of players assembled at Portman Road in recent seasons.

With these talented players in mind, below, and just for fun, we thought we’d look at Ipswich Town’s current squad to try and predict the next two players the club will sell for large amount of money.

The first Ipswich Town player we think has big money potential over the next few years is Conor Chaplin. The 26-year-old was enjoying the best season of his career in League One last season, where his huge tally of goals helped Ipswich Town achieve automatic promotion.

Indeed, Chaplin scored 26 goals for the Tractor Boys in the Third Division in the 2022/23 season, while also registering five assists.

Importantly, Chaplin also had a very good scoring record towards the end of the season, scoring 10 goals in Ipswich’s final nine League One matches.

Drawing on his Championship experience, Chaplin has also found the transition to the Championship to be smooth so far, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists at the end of September.

If he can achieve figures close to those he produced last season, if Ipswich Town are not top of the table, clubs are looking for an attacking threat and the holders of a promotion certificate may begin to look in Chaplin’s direction.

If that is the case, with Chaplin recently signing a new contract until 2026, any club looking to sign him will certainly have to fork out a relatively large fee.

The second player we think could be set to earn a relatively large sum of money in the future at Ipswich Town is defender Leif Davis.

Davis is another player who had a very impressive campaign in League One last season, thriving in the role given to him by Kieran McKenna.

Indeed, not only did Davis score 3 goals thanks to the winger, but he also had an extremely impressive 14 assists for his teammates.

There are signs that this is continuing this season, like with Chaplin, with Davis already having two assists in seven games this season. Davis is under contract until 2025, with an option for a further year which you’d assume Ipswich would accept, meaning he’ll have two years left on his contract next summer.

If he has another impressive season, next summer could be the time to cash in if there is interest from above.

With Ipswich reportedly paying a seven-figure fee for him when he was in League One last season, he will certainly also have to pay a decent fee to leave Portman Road.
