Gary O’Neil must now allow the 27-year-old to leave this summer

Gary O’Neil came in and he’s had it tough so far.

He hasn’t been able to deliver the results so far, but there have been some positive signs.

And one of the biggest positives for Wolves so far has been the form of Hwang Hee-chan…

Gary O’Neil must be delighted Wolves did not sell Hwang Hee-chan

The 2023 summer window was an extremely chaotic one for Wolves.

It shall be remembered as the window that saw many high profile names leave the club to offset spending.

Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins, Raul Jimenez and Nunes were all sold.

And Adama Traore, Diego Costa and Joao Moutinho all left at the end of their contracts.

Hwang was actually also linked with an exit from Molineux.

It was reported that the South Korean had ‘plenty of clubs’ on his tail at the start of the summer.

Given the financial situation at the club in the summer, there was perhaps a very real chance that Hwang could have been sold.

Wolves were open to offers for their players, and Hwang had shown some good form in the second half of the season under Lopetegui.

But the 27-year-old ultimately stayed put – and he looks like he will now be absolutely key for Wolves this term.

Hwang is one of Wolves’ most impactful players

O’Neil is probably buzzing that he’s got Hwang in his squad.

The former RB Leipzig star has clearly shown he knows where the goal is. Currently, he is statistically one of the most prolific players in the Premier League.

He is arguably the most natural finisher at the club, and pops up in some really good positions. It’s already four goals for him this season.

He’s already equalled his tally for the whole of last season, and needs just one more to equal his first term haul for Wolves.

But it’s not only the goal threat that he offers.

Hwang has always been a player who works hard.

And you can tell O’Neil, like Lopetegui, values that trait. Hwang has appeared in seven of Wolves’ eight games so far this season, and he appears to be a key player in a challenging season.
