Cameron Carter-Vickers might make an early comeback for Celtic against Lazio.
Cameron Carter-Vickers could be called up for Celtic’s Champions League match against Lazio on Wednesday.
Since suffering a hamstring injury against Aberdeen on August 13, the centre-back has not played.
With Gustaf Lagerbielke suspended after his red card in the Group E opening against Feyenoord, and Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh still out injured, Rodgers has few choices in center defense.
Liam Scales is expected to stay in the team given his recent form, while Nat Phillips, on loan from Liverpool, is eligible after coming off the bench at Motherwell on Saturday to make his first game since suffering an ankle injury on his debut against Dundee on September 16.
“In terms of Nat, he came through fine, so he will be available,” manager Brendan Rodgers said.
“We wouldn’t take a chance on Cam unless he was physically fit.” He has done exceptionally well. He is further along than we anticipated.
“He’s had a great week of training and has done a lot of other work out on the field before that.”
“I have stated that it (his return) could have occurred after “He’s made great progress during the international break, so we’ll just assess that to see if he can be in for the squad (on Wednesday), and if he is, that would obviously be great news for us.”
