After a ‘very difficult path with fertility challenges,’ ex-Celtic player Tom Rogic quits at the age of 30 with his wife expecting twins.
Tom Rogic, a former Celtic midfielder, has announced his retirement at the age of 30 to focus on his family after learning that his wife is expecting twins after “struggles and heartache with fertility treatment.”
The former Australia international joined the Hoops in 2013 from Central Coast Mariners and spent nine trophy-laden years at Parkhead until joining West Brom in 2022.
Rogic made 271 games for Celtic, helping them win six Scottish Premiership titles, five Scottish Cups, and five League Cups.
In an emotional Instagram post, Rogic announced the end of his professional career and talked all about the fertility issues he and his wife had faced over the years.
and stated that he will be “forever grateful” for Celtic’s support and assistance.
“After careful consideration, I have made the decision to retire from professional football,” Rogic declared after being released by West Brom this summer.
“I’ve always been rather private about my personal life, but given the significance, I believe it’s important for people to understand why and how I made my decision.”
“My wife and I have been on an extremely difficult journey with fertility issues for the past seven years.” My wife and I were fortunate enough to welcome the arrival of our daughter in 2021 after years of trying and several failed rounds of IVF.
“I have loved every minute of being a father and regard it as my greatest accomplishment in life.”
“After some more struggles and heartbreak with fertility treatment, we recently received the wonderful news that our family is expanding and we will be expecting twins in 2024.”
“Given our history and how hard we have worked for this, as well as the challenges that will come with having twins and a two-year-old, now appears to be the right time to give my consent.”
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have spent the majority of my career at Celtic, one of the world’s largest clubs, playing European football, winning numerous trophies, and performing in front of 60,000 fans every week.” I’ve also had the opportunity to represent my country with the Socceroos on over 50 occasions and to compete in big international events.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have formed some wonderful friendships through football and shared so many special moments with them.” I’d like to thank Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond as well. All of this would not have been feasible without their assistance.
“Through Peter and Dermot, I was put in direct contact with one of the world’s leading medical experts, which eventually led to my wife and me being placed at the clinic that would provide us with the best chance of starting a family.” I will be eternally thankful.
“I’d like to thank Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon, John Kennedy, and Ange Postecoglou, the managers who supported and guided me through some difficult times.”
“I would like to thank everyone in football who has given me such tremendous opportunities to be a part of the game I love throughout my career.”
