Immobile informed his Lazio colleagues about ‘what to expect’ at Celtic Park.
Ciro Immobile is adamant that “goals will come again,” but he has warned his Lazio colleagues about what to anticipate at Celtic Park.
On Wednesday, Lazio will play Celtic in the second round of their Champions League group stage.
Maurizio Sarri rotated slightly against Milan on Saturday, so Immobile started on the bench, but the Italian striker has had a difficult start to the season, scoring only two goals in eight appearances across all competitions in 2023-24.
“I am feeling well, I am calm,” Immobile stated during a pre-match press conference on Tuesday, according to TMW.
“We are not seeing results, but I am confident that this will change.” The dressing room has a pleasant environment. As a group, we make mistakes. Last season, our defense was our strength; this season, we must be more disciplined.”
Lazio have lost four of their first seven Serie A games.
This season, they have won three games and drawn one. They drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid in the first Champions League game of the season two weeks ago, but are Lazio stronger than Celtic?
“I trust my teammates and what they’ve always proved to me,” Immobile stated.
“I know what they’re capable of, but I also know how powerful Celtic are.” They play good football, but they are not your typical British squad.
“Given the pre-season, we expected a different start.” The defeat in Lecce has still had an impact on us. We were winning when we were abruptly defeated. We deserved more against Genoa, but any game can provide an opportunity to respond.”
Lazio faced Celtic in the Europa League four years ago under Simone Inzaghi, so Immobile knows exactly what to expect from the Scottish giants, especially away.
“I was on the bench for the first leg so I could experience the atmosphere, and I told my teammates what to expect,” the Italian striker explained.
“A lot has changed for them and for us. They are now a completely different team.”
Immobile’s last goal came on September 23 against Monza, but he didn’t appear bothered about his goal drought.
“Goals make the difference and I am still at the top like I was when I won the Golden Boot,” he maintained.
“When we’ll have goal-scoring opportunities again, goals will come again.”
Finally, Immobile was asked about his teammate Taty Castellanos.
“He’s a smart guy who has always been available to everyone.” He is young, but he has played in several leagues and is eager to learn,” he remarked.
“I am confident he will assist us because I have seen it in training.” The same is true for the other new lads who are going through the same thing we did when we first started with the mister.”
