Despite leading the Brazilian league, former Wolves manager Bruno Lage has been fired by new club Botafogo.

The Portuguese was fired almost a year to the day after he was fired by Wolves following a dismal start to the Premier League season.

He has only been in control of the Brazilian club for three months.

Despite this, Lage has led them to the top of the Brazilian Serie A standings, where they are seven points ahead of their nearest competitors after 25 games of a 38-game season.

However, they have lost three of their previous four games and drew one, causing the club to axe the player on the orders of owner and American billionaire John Textor.

“Botafogo informs that, by decision of John Textor and the Football Department, Bruno Lage is no longer with the club,” the club said in a statement.

“Botafogo emphasizes Bruno Lage’s professionalism, character, and commitment during the time when he defended the black and white shirt and was a member of the family.” Despite the coach’s unbeaten start (10 games), the current results were not as predicted.

“”The club would like to thank Bruno and his entire technical committee for their assistance to Glorioso over the previous few months, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Lage was at Molineux for slightly over a year, taking over after Nuno Espirito Santo left in 2021.

He was fired four games into last season, when Wolves were in the bottom three following only one win in their first four games.
