Police are looking for former Arsenal and Celtic striker Antony Stokes after he failed to appear in court for sentence for sending abusive communications to his ex-girlfriend and her father.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for ex-Arsenal and Celtic striker Antony Stokes after he failed to appear in court for sentence.
Stokes, 35, was scheduled to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday for punishment after sending insulting messages to his ex-girlfriend Eilidh Scott and her father following a non-harassment order. However, the Republic of Ireland international did not appear, and his defense lawyer stated that he had “no explanation for his absence.”
As police continue to look for the former footballer, another warrant for his arrest has been issued. Stokes agreed to sending Miss Scott a slew of abusive communications over a seven-month period in 2019, calling her a’s**t’ and a ‘w***e’. He also appeared.
Stokes had previously been issued a four-year non-harassment order against Ms Scott and her parents, but he repeatedly violated the order by messaging his ex-girlfriend and her father George. He is also claimed to have called her mother several times.
According to the Daily Record, at a brief hearing on Thursday, the court found that Stokes had not appeared and had also failed to engage with social workers who attempted to compile a background report. After previously failing to appear for sentencing, an arrest warrant was issued in 2021, and he was eventually apprehended in Northern Ireland last year.
As a result, a warrant for his arrest will be issued.” Stokes was previously labeled a ‘flight risk’ by the Sheriff after flying from Dublin to Glasgow last month to turn himself in to police.
Stokes was born in Ireland but was snatched up by Arsenal’s youth system when he was a teenager. Stokes played in the League Cup for the club before moving Sunderland and enjoying the peak of his career with Celtic.
