Celtic star suffers international snub.
The latest Celtic and Rangers transfer news on Monday, ahead of the Scottish Premiership blackout…
Celtic and Rangers enter the latest international break on the heels of Premiership victories against Kilmarnock and St Mirren, respectively, over the weekend.
Despite the weather, it was another busy weekend of top-flight action, with the Hoops rebounding from their midweek Champions League loss by defeating Killie 3-1 on Saturday, and Steven Davis picking up his first three points as interim Gers manager in Paisley on Sunday.
In other news, a few transfer rumors are still making the rounds. On Monday, October 9th, here are the latest Celtic and Rangers headlines:
Matt O’Riley, the in-form Celtic midfielder, has suffered his latest Denmark blow after being snubbed for the SECOND time by national team head Kasper Hjulmand.
O’Riley, who has five goals and two assists for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, was anticipated to earn his first Danish senior call-up for this month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and San Marino.
However, the Hoops star was left out of the first squad last week, and now Anderlecht attacker Kasper Dolberg has been invited to join Hjulmand’s side instead of O’Riley after Bournemouth central midfielder Philip Billing withdrew with a slight injury.
It comes only days after Hjulmand stated that O’Riley was on his radar after already outscoring him last season. Hjulmand explained his choice to leave out the player as being for tactical reasons.
“O’Riley’s an interesting option, but I’ve chosen players who best suit the way we want to play in these two upcoming games,” he said. He’s a three-man attacking midfielder who thrives in a three-man midfield. He’s a talented ball player who’s off to a fast start.”

Josh McPake, a former Rangers academy player, will not be offered a contract with Hamilton Accies in League One. According to reports, the 22-year-old joined the Lanarkshire club on trial earlier this week in an attempt to land a contract with John Rankin’s side, but director of football Gerry Strain confirmed McPake is merely using their training facilities to stay fit.
McPake, a free agent, departed Ibrox last month, and it is believed his next likely destination could be south of the border, where he has previously had loan spells at Harrogate Town, Morecambe, and Tranmere Rovers.
Strain stated that the midfielder’s wages are beyond Hamilton’s means, saying, “Josh is a cracking lad and a cracking talent, but we won’t be signing him.” He came here to start training and keep himself busy until he could acquire a job. But there will be no trial, and he will not sign. He is making use of our resources.
“Our wage budget is half of what it was last season.” I’m reading that we’re paying £15,000 or £2,000 every week, which is a lot of nonsense. That is not the case. We have considerably decreased our pay bill, and Josh is out of our price range. We have a fantastic working relationship with his agency, which has led to us providing amenities at
