The Dutch champions won’t have any supporters inside the Stadio Olimpico when the clubs clash on November 7

Lazio have banned Feyenoord fans from attending next month’s Champions League showdown in Rome.

Celtic’s Euro rivals square off in a double-header as Group E begins to take shape. Lazio – who moved into second spot after last week’s dramatic win at Parkhead – make the trip to Rotterdam on October 25 before hosting the Dutch champions at the Stadio Olimpico on November 7.

But Lazio and the Italian authorities have ruled that Feyenoord fans WON’T be allocated any tickets for the clash at the iconic 72,000-seater stadium. The decision was made for safety reasons after riots broke out before Feyenoord’s Champions League encounter with Roma, causing significant damage to the 17th-century Barcaccia fountain near the Spanish Steps.

23 Dutch fans were arrested after clashing with riot police, leading to a £1million repair bill at one of the city’s most picturesque locations. More than 6,000 supporters had travelled over to the Italian capital for the game, and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was forced to issue an apology over the violence that broke out.

Remarkably, it’s third third time in two years that Feyenoord fans have been locked out of the Stadio Olimpico, having faced Lazio and Roma in last season’s Europa League.

Celtic are due to face Lazio in Rome on November 28 – four years after Olivier Ntcham netted a famous stoppage-time winner to earn the Hoops their first ever victory on Italian soil.
