Over his two spells at Celtic, Brendan Rodgers has managed some outstanding players. The likes of Kieran Tierney, Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard spring to mind, although the Irishman has named the one man he would love to have coached.

In a Q&A that took questions from Celtic fans on Twitter, Rodgers was asked to name one player from any era of the club that he would’ve liked to have coached. The double-treble-winning boss named that player as Paul McStay.

McStay spent his whole career at Parkhead, making over 500 appearances for the Bhoys. The now 58-year-old is a true club legend, and Rodgers heavily praised him.

The Irishman spoke on Celtic’s YouTube channel. He said: “I always say Paul McStay because of the quality and the genius he had in the game and the love he showed when he played for Celtic. So to have someone like that in your team that inspires others so I’d have to say Paul.”

Albeit they were involved in the game in completely different eras, it would have been intriguing to see Rodgers manage McStay. The current boss of the champions is one of the best personal, one-on-one coaches out there and he would have likely worked wonders with the Scotland great. Maybe in another life.
