It would be safe to say that Celtic’s transfer business over the recent years has been a bit inconsistent. They were incredible during the summer of 2021 and the winter of 2022, building the core of the team by signing many players who would go on to be first-team starters. But other than that, it is hard to think of a standout window.

Of course, there have been plenty of good signings made. The addition of Jeremie Frimpong from Manchester City certainly falls under that category.

Frimpong arrived at Celtic as a teenager and was viewed as a ‘project’ signing, who would be involved with the developmental sides for the most part. Instead, the Dutchman found himself as a regular starter just months later.

Frimpong’s run at Celtic was not long though. He would spend a season and a half in Glasgow before joining Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee north of £10 million. With a sell-on clause also in play and the Dutchman being linked with clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and more, it is no wonder that fans have kept a close eye on him.

There is some interesting news regarding Frimpong. He was linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe over the summer and many believed that an exit was certain. But it did not happen.

Now, as tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Frimpong is set to accept a new long-term deal from Bayer Leverkusen. He is expected to sign a new contract valid until June 2028.

Of course, what does this mean for Celtic and a future transfer windfall from the sell-on clause? If Frimpong is signing a long-term deal, it would suggest that there are plans for him to remain at Bayer Leverkusen for the foreseeable future. They are a team on the rise right now under the management of Xabi Alonso.
