Mike Tomlin’s Friend Named Steelers OC Candidate.
PITTSBURGH, — The Pittsburgh Steelers will almost certainly keep offensive coordinator Matt Canada for the rest of the season, but if he leaves in the spring, who will the team select to replace him? Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, who was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Mike Tomlin was the defensive backs coach, is one candidate. The squad won a Super Bowl together, and one insider feels a reunion is possible.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was questioned about a prospective replacement during his weekly conversation with Steelers supporters. “It’s far too early to speculate.” “However, a Tomlin friend — Jon Gruden,” Dulac responded.
Gruden is no longer in the NFL after quitting from the Raiders, but he has had success in the past. While supporters would want to go younger and discover the next Kyle Shannahan – or someone from his coaching tree – the Super Bowl-winning coach may be a step in the right direction for Pittsburgh.
